New Calculation of Civil War Casualties


Union veterans William F. Fox and Thomas Leonard Livermore opined in 1889 after an “exhaustive study of the army documents and pension records available at the time” that 620,000 soldiers died during the Civil War.  That number has been used by many ever since as the number of lives lost.  Here is an internet sites discussing the issue:

No change since the report in the May Newsletter.  We are still waiting for Secretary of State Evnen to appoint the Monument Committee mandated by LB 850.
