CIVIL WAR ROUND TABLE OF NEBRASKA

May 2011 Newsletter

    THIS MONTH’S MEETING:

May 21, 2011 (Note earlier date than usual!!!)
    Cannon Shoot
20100 S. 25th, Hickman, NE (NOT Legacy Estates!)

This will be a special meeting at the home of Mark Nicholas just south of Lincoln (see maps below).  We will begin at 6:00 p.m. with a pot luck dinner.  The Round Table will provide sloppy joes, hot dogs, buns, mustard, ketchup, paper plates, and plastic 'silverware'; please bring your own  drink,  any more exotic condiments you may desire, and then an item to share:  if your name begins with N-Z, please bring a salad or side dish; if your name begins with A-M, please bring a dessert (this is reversed from last time!).  So that we know how many sloppy joes and hot dogs are needed, please let Steve Guenzel know how many of either you want by calling him at 475-4240 (you can leave a message with your name, how many others will be with you, and how many sloppy joes and/or hot dogs your group will want), or send an email reply.  There is a chance of inclement weather, so please also leave a phone number where you can be reached on Saturday, in case we need to cancel or move this event. Please respond by Wednesday, May 18, so appropriate items may be purchased.

The program will be presented by Battery B, 1st New York Light Artillery, which is based out of Fort Kearney (though I believe some of the members are from Hastings).  They will bring their Three Inch Ordinance Rifle (named Dorothy, because 'she' is from Kansas) and fire a number of blank rounds for us.  They will demonstrate the duties of the various members of the gun crew.  They also plan to stay until dusk, as night firings are quite exciting.  Below are some photos from the similar event that the Round Table had in May of 2007.

Here are some maps to help you find Mark's house at 20100 S. 25th, Hickman, Nebraska.  The first shows southern Lincoln and the best way to get down to near Mark's:
